Sixty years have passed since Sean Connery debuted the gentleman spy on screen for the first Eon-produced Bond film: Dr. First debuting in the novel Casino Royale in 1953, Fleming’s international super-spy was to become a bastion of masculinity for many, as well as one of the most famous fictional characters of all time. The author spent hours each day boozing, womanising and taking dips in the ocean. For better and worse, Ian Fleming was an awful lot like his fictional creation James Bond.
